According to the Food and Drug Administration (.pdf file), most medications do not affect driving ability, but some prescription and over-the-counter medicines can cause reactions that might make driving unsafe, especially if medications are combined. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration offers guidance for older drivers on the possible impact of medications and driving. NHTSA provides links for transportation alternatives and information on medication interactions. For more information on this topic, please contact the NSC Library at (630) 775-2199 or library@nsc.org.
